in the antipodes of the ordinary

“This is the most remote and extraordinary place I’ve ever been to”, told us a traveller after returning from her trip. We agree, Australia breaks with the ordinary.

Truly far away yet really extraordinary.

Its coast is tremendously extraordinary: kilometres upon kilometres of virgin coast with an exuberant marine fauna. Its Great Barrier Reef is famous, but if we’re looking for even more: Nigaloo. What makes it extraordinary is not only the friendly painted wood turtles and the gigantic whale shark, the humpback whale, or the thousands of dolphins. It’s also the world’s most virgin coral reefs.

The mythicism of its peoples is extraordinary. Its mix of cultures and its aboriginal roots have the sacred Uluru mountain as its biggest exponent.

It has extraordinary architectonic signs. It’s enough to mention the Sydney Opera House. But there is much more to say about and see at Sydney.

Fewer places as extraordinary as Tasmania, that island even further to the south where its woods, waterfalls, and lakes are simply staggering. An ideal place to enjoy transparent waters on a quiet kayak. A place to explore on a 4×4. A place to feel alive with prodigious excursions by foot.

We return to what our traveller said. Yes, Australia is a remote country, but it’s so extraordinary…
