When we dream about a place on Earth that doesn’t look like the Earth we think of New Zealand.
20,000 kilometres separate us. But 20,000 kilometres don’t seem like much to admire such an extraordinary and different scenery.
Cinematic productions have travelled there when they wanted to represent worlds of fantasy. The Lord of the Rings, or the Chronicles of Narnia have had an impact on us through the big screen. Even a simple image such as a beach seems different there. The iconic image of The Piano demonstrates it.
20,000 kilometres but also 20,000 landscapes. Jungles by the Pacific, snowed mountains, Southern Lights, beaches of crystal-clear water close to ice tongues.
New Zealand transmits an idea of powerful and stimulating freedom. Crossing the country on a caravan is an enriching experience as you accumulate in your retina a collection of spectacular landscapes at your own pace (and now, without the need of travelling 20,000 kilometres).
It might not be 20,000 kilometres, but there are definitely hundreds of activities to choose from. Rafting, bungee jumping, helicopter trips, jungle treks, diving or snorkelling in idyllic beaches, strolls by horse, fly fishing… And yes, many of these you can do in other countries, but never with such an overwhelming scenery as your background.
Chatham Islands, Great Barrier Island, Stewart Island, Waiheke Island. These names might not say much to you, but they’re considered to be among the most beautiful places on Earth to live in.
We’re 20,000 kilometres away from the cosmopolitan Auckland, the city with more boats than people, or the capital city of Wellington. But if we look for the exceptional, this distance is short because, once there, you’ll feel like you’re in a different world.

Travel recommendations for New Zealand
Five ideas to make the most of your trip to New Zealand
- Wharariki Beach, in the Tasmania Sea, is a present for the eyes after walking along a beautiful path for 20 minutes. A bit less if you’re on a horse

- Where should we stop? A terribly complicated question to answer. There are so many places to stop and simply gaze…

- A different country with different constructions. Go to Hobbiton and see for yourself

- Few places on Earth where the helicopter pilot can ask: to the beach or the snow?

- Put on your sports shoes and ascend up a volcano. Once up there, shout “wow!”
