We will travel between two countries, Greece and North Macedonia, in search of the essential places of Western culture.
A pause. Silence. We will listen carefully, hoping to catch the lingering echo of Aristotle’s words in the Nymphaeum of Mieza, where he once taught philosophy to, among others, the future conqueror Alexander the Great.
Before that, we will immerse ourselves in the history of magnificent Thessaloniki. We will explore key sites from the reign of Philip II and reach Meteora — a place that feels almost imaginary, with its monasteries perched atop dramatic rock pinnacles.
In North Macedonia, extraordinary places await us: Ohrid, with its churches, and Saint Naum, breathtaking in its beauty.
Roman remains, Muslim influences, a Byzantine past, neoclassical mansions…
Bitola, Stobi, and Skopje will surprise us with their rich heritage, in a journey where the weight of history is felt at every step.

Juan Corona Ramón holds a PhD in Economics and Business Administration and is Professor of Applied Economics. He was the first Rector of Abat Oliba CEU University (UAO CEU), where he is now Rector Emeritus. He currently directs the Jean Monnet Chair on Fiscal Integration in the European Union and the Antoni de Montserrat Chair of Global Studies, both at UAO CEU.
His current areas of research focus on economics and geography, particularly cultural and political aspects. In economics, his work centres on macroeconomics and public finance, as well as entrepreneurship and family business. In geography, his research explores multicultural development in the Middle East and Central Asia, the challenges of African economies, and issues related to Antarctica.
Throughout his career, he has visited more than 200 countries, later analysing the regions visited through lectures and academic meetings at institutions such as Casa Asia, Casa de América, the Spanish Geographical Society, and the Institut d’Estudis Nord-americans.
Between 1990 and 1992, he directed the exploration and adventure sections of the radio programme La aventura es un placer on Antena 3 Radio. From 2005 to 2007, he was a regular contributor to Lugares no recomendables on Radio 4, and between 2002 and 2004 he participated in the television programme Manoa on 25 TV. He is a regular contributor to the Bulletin of the Spanish Geographical Society and, together with Ferrer & Saret, is also a promoter of the Ali Bey Travel Commission of the Círculo Ecuestre of Barcelona.
