Egypt:
40 centuries of history
The desert is iconic on camelback. Fun in a 4x4 or on a quad bike
Diving? Sharm El Sheikh awaits
How relaxing it is to sail the Nile aboard a dahabiya
It isn’t difficult to get into the shoes of past archeologists when, excitedly, they discovered remnants of such a complex civilisation. It isn’t difficult to feel what they felt. It is possible in Egypt.
The Nile marks the way. There are footprints of the impressive Egyptian civilisation on both shores.
To not be impressed when standing by the Abu Simbel temples is impossible. Walking between the immense Luxor and Karnak is unforgettable. The Valley of the Kings, with its interminable archeological remains, is remarkable.
But the infinite Nile hides even more jewels. Edfu, Kom Ombo, Philae, o Hatshepsut are other temples where every rock and every detail tells a story, history.
The Nile, the blood river, arrives at Cairo to escort us to the colossal pyramids of Gizeh and its sphinx.
The Nile, always the Nile that vertebrates your discovery of Egypt and does so from exquisite boats that could be found in an Agatha Christie novel. On the deck, contemplating the sunset while having mint tea is as memorable as it is godly. It is hard to think that you must disembark onto land, but it is essential to do so. The Egyptian Museum, the National Museum of the Egyptian Civilisation, the Al-Azhar mosque, or the Jan el-Jalili bazar are powerful reasons to tour the largest Arab metropole.
But we will not only go after the footprints of pharaohs and history. Egypt also has another magnetic proposition: the Red Sea with its white sand beaches of crystal-clear water and its endless opportunities of diving or relaxing.
40 centuries of history deserve a few days of your life.
