What do you associate Morocco to? Legendary deserts? Old cities? Fertile mountains? Exotic gastronomy? Associate it to fascination. Morocco is a fascinating country.
Sunset looms in and hundreds of people flock into Marrakech’s incomparable Jemaa el Fna square. Musicians, snake charmers, storytellers, dancers… A universe of authenticity surrounded by the smoke of grills that appeal to an informal and entertaining dinner.
Marrakech is a gem. Its hotels are pure homages to exquisiteness. Its souks, gardens, atmosphere… Yves Saint Laurent fell in love with this city and, like him, everyone who visits it.
The Atlas gives us the opportunity to explore countless walks across steep trails that integrate views of both far-away villages and whimsical waterfalls. The Ourika or Ouzoud valleys are testaments to this natural beauty.
The desert also allows us to do amusing family activities. Routing, on a 4×4, for instance, we can reach villages where the only inhabitants still are descendants of Sudanese slaves. We can admire mountains covered by fossils and realise that this immense desert was, at some point, covered in water. We can arrive at a Portuguese fortress, an incredible viewpoint from where to contemplate a startling landscape. There, whilst you enjoy these views you will have a mint tea with irresistible sweets prepared for you, together with ancestral Moroccan music.
Later, after the day’s intensity, we select for you the most sophisticated riads or Kashbas like Xaluca, a fortress turned into a hotel-spa.
More days? More places: the spectacular Dades gorges; the Draa valley; oasis such as the Tinerhit; imperial cities such as Fez or Meknes; the untamed Ouarzazate; the Atlantic coast beaches and resorts.
Morocco has always provided what the traveller seeks. And, it’s so close!
