Mongolia:
the unkown country
Spend a night in a ger on the steppe and you’ll know you’ve truly lived Mongolia
Prepare your body and mind for a private meditation ceremony in a monastery
Taste yak milk and the cuisine built around it
“It’s a trip to a far-away place and also a time travelling experience to the past”. One of our lucky travellers who visited Mongolia described their trip like so. We don’t need to add much more.
The country seems like a never-ending confrontation between past and present, between tradition and modernity. Mongolia is one of the few places where you can feel that the passage of time doesn’t affect the territory. However, its capital city wants to be a XXI century city. Fascinating contrast.
It’s cold during most of the year. It’s capital city reaches -25º in winter, hence why we recommend visiting the country in July and August, when the temperatures are very pleasant. Especially in July, when the Nadaan Festival is celebrated and is another time-travelling adventure to the past with its horse racing, Mongol fighting, or arching competitions. A fascinating experience.
Its plains are an authentic evasion for our gaze. The Mongol steppes are limitless extensions that can be discovered with 4x4s to observe the nomad lifestyle with its impressive Gers, the fantastic Mongolian tents. Fascinating life.
And as a background, omnipresent, you can observe the Karakorum with its 7000 meter peaks. The closer you get, the more the doses of adventure increase. Fascinating panorama.
In Mongolia you can also perceive the beauty of the serene Tibetan Buddhism. It is, together with Bhutan, the only country in the world where Buddhism is the main religion. A religion that is also generous because it has spoiled the endless country with thousands and thousands of temples and monasteries. Fascinating introspection.
Trying the simple Mongolian gastronomy based in yak milk and yogurts, sleeping in a comfortable ger, discovering the most inhospitable part of the silk route on a 4×4 is an experience to live in the depths of nomad life.
Fascinating.
Fascinating like only an unknown country like this can be.
